Benton, KY man pleads guilty in deadly crash

A Benton, Kentucky man charged with manslaughter in the death of a Benton, Kentucky woman pleaded guilty in court on Wednesday.

57-year-old William Wheeler was charged in a December car crash that killed 80-year-old Margaret Jane Poe.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office says Wheeler was driving northbound on US 641 when he crossed the center line and into oncoming traffic.

Wheeler hit an oncoming minivan. Poe was a passenger in that van and died at a local hospital.

On Wednesday, Wheeler pleaded guilty to manslaughter, wanton endangerment, and assault. He agreed to a 15 year sentence and will have to give up his driver’s license.

Wheeler will be formally sentenced on November 29.
