Crash in Jefferson County kills one, injures another

Illinois State Police are investigating a deadly crash in Jefferson County.

The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on Illinois Route 142 just 3/10 of a mile west of Lamplight Lane. This is near Opdyke, Illinois.

Troopers say a Dodge being driven by 18-year-old Chance Gein of McLeansboro, Illinois, was heading west on Illinois Route 142 when he crossed the center line and hit a Ford head on.

After the impact, the Dodge rolled over, stopped in the road, and caught on fire. The Ford went off the road.

The driver of the Ford, 33-year-old Lea Boykin of Belle Rive, Illinois, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gein, the driver of the Dodge, was taken to a local hospital with major injuries. He has been charged with improper lane use.
