Lyons family awaits Red Cross assignment in Florida

A local couple from Murray is in Tallahassee Friday, on their way to help with Hurricane Matthew relief in Florida.

We first told you that Red Cross volunteers Mike and Marie Lyons were headed to Florida on Thursday. From Tallahassee, they tell us they’re in a holding pattern since the city of Orlando is under a curfew.

Marie says she hopes to know where she and her husband will be sent sometime Saturday morning. That could include cities from Orlando to Jacksonville.

"In this particular case, it’s very calm in Tallahassee. But, we’re waiting to see how we can help once we can get into, you know, the are that has been affected. And we don’t know what’s going to take place tonight," Marie says.

The Lyons plan to stay in a Red Cross staff shelter Friday night with about 200 volunteers. Marie says there are no hotel rooms available in Florida or Georgia.
