Mayfield puts pause on new nuisance ordinance

No action was taken Monday on a new ordinance that, if passed, would affect owners of unkept properties in Mayfield, Kentucky.

The city council had scheduled for Monday the first reading of a new nuisance ordinance to set a penalty for owners of messy properties if they don’t clean them up.

Mayor Teresa Rochetti-Cantrell says the item was pulled from the agenda after the Kentucky League of Cities suggested a rewrite. She says lawyers are working on the rewrite, and it should be ready by next month’s meeting.
