Gov. Rauner to talk about reopening Illinois Youth Center in Murphysboro

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner will be in Murphysboro Friday to talk about reopening the Illinois Youth Center.

The facility was closed in 2012 by Governor Pat Quinn as a cost-saving measure.

In an op-ed published in the Chicago Sun Times, Rauner said the center will be reopened as a life skills and re-entry facility.

Rauner says the repurposed youth center will be a minimum security facility, "with a focus on preparing offenders for a successful transition back into society through educational, vocational, and life skills training."

The governor will be at the youth center at 11:30 a.m. Friday to talk about reopening the facility.
