One killed, one hurt in U.S. 45 wreck

One person died and another was injured in a two-car wreck on U.S. 45 southbound at Contest Road, south of Lone Oak, Friday night.

There was a two-car wreck around 5:41 p.m. Friday, and McCracken County Coroner Dan Sims told our crew at the scene that there was one fatality. The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department reported later Friday night that the person who was killed was 68-year-old Julia Pack of Paducah.

Deputies say Pack was driving a 2013 Buick Lacrosse eastbound on Contest Road when she began to cross U.S. 45. At the same time, deputies say another driver was headed southbound on U.S. 45.

The two cars collided in the right lane of U.S. 45 south.

Pack was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in her car, 63-year-old James Anderson of Paducah, was taken to Lourdes hospital in Paducah for injuries deputies describe as non-incapacitating.

Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane for about three hours to facilitate the investigation, deputies say.

In addition to the sheriff’s department, the Lone Oak Fire Department, Mercy Regional EMS, the McCracken County Coroner’s Office, and the McCracken County Department of Emergency Services assisted at the scene.
