Body found at confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers
UPDATE: The person whose body was recovered Monday morning has been identified, according to the local sheriff’s department.
The Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office says it is not releasing the person’s name until family can be notified.
We have confirmed that the body is not 13-year-old Paul Johnson, who disappeared a week ago while swimming with his cousin at Devil’s Backbone Campground in Jackson County, Illinois. The body of Johnson’s cousin, 50-year-old David Totten, was found last week near Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a body has been removed from the Mississippi River.
It was found at the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers.
The body is being taken to the Mississippi County coroner.
The identity of the victim is unknown at this time.
We will be updating this story as we get more information.
