Man dies after weekend wreck on Irvin Cobb Drive
A wreck involving a car, a van and a tractor-trailer on Irvin Cobb Drive claimed a man’s life over the weekend, according to the Paducah Police Department.
The wreck happened at 10 a.m. on Sunday on Irvin Cobb Drive between Legion and Broad streets in Paducah. In a news release published online Monday, the police department says Mark Harper was taken by ambulance to Baptist Health Paducah after the wreck, and he was pronounced dead at 10:51 a.m.
Police say a woman was stopped in eastbound traffic on Irvin Cobb Drive waiting to turn her 1997 Dodge Ram Wagon left into a parking lot in the 2000 block of the road. Officers say the woman told them while she was waiting, the 1998 Mercury Sable Harper was driving hit the rear of her van before swerving into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer.
Officers say the driver of the tractor-trailer told them he braked to try to avoid the car, but his semi jack-knifed slightly and the car slid beneath the trailer.
The Paducah Police Department Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the wreck.
