The best laptops to give for Christmas 2017
Are laptops on your holiday gift list? There are more deals and choices on laptop computers than ever before. Here’s which model may be best for your loved ones.
This is a question I get frequently: Which laptop should I give my kids for Christmas?
There’s a different answer for different kid. Here are some things you need to know before you buy:
If the person on your list uses an iPhone or iPad, a Macbook is an excellent choice. They’re lightweight, very powerful and expensive in the $1,000 range. The Macbook Air is the lightweight version. Great for travel and for most applications.
If the person on your gift list is a high school or college student, they won’t be satisfied with anything other than a Mac, because it has a cool factor.
PC laptops run windows, same as your desktop computer. Expect to pay $700-$1,000 for a laptop that’ll last for years.
If the person on your gift list doesn’t care much about what’s cool and they use a PC at home or work, this is your best bet. Microsoft Surface laptops fold over to be used as a tablet. The relative newcomer to the market is powerful and easy to carry in a a backpack or briefcase.
“It’s going to be a lot lighter weight. There’s no physical hard drive in it. It’s a solid state drive,” Terrance Cole with Best Buy says. Surface books are more expensive than traditional laptops, in the $700-$2,000 range.
Chromebooks are the best bang for your buck.
A Chromebook is relatively simple. It basically runs through just a Google operating system, so Google Chrome is the only thing you can access on it. It’s very compact and light. Prices start under $200.
If they do most of their work online, check out those Chromebooks.
Consider this: you can buy 5 Chromebooks for the price of one Macbook Pro.
