All lanes of Purchase Parkway near Benton, KY reopened after crash

The West Marshall Fire Department shared this photo online of a semi crash along the Purchase Parkway.

UPDATE: All lanes of the Purchase Parkway are open.

UPDATE: All north and southbound lanes of the Purchase Parkway remain closed Thursday night around the 42 mile marker in Benton, KY, after a truck crashed there earlier in the evening.

As of 11 p.m. Thursday, The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the closure is expected to stay in place another three hours.

The truck hit the pillars of an overpass at the crash site. A bridge inspector found that there is no structural damage to the bridge, but there is superficial damage to the pier. Traffic on that overpass, which is part of Kentucky 408, has been cleared to reopen.

But, the parkway is still closed so the crash site can be cleaned up.

MARSHALL COUNTY, KY – All lanes of the Purchase Parkway are blocked in both directions around mile marker 42 in Benton, Kentucky, Thursday night due to a crash, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

KYTC spokesman Keith Todd says a truck was headed northbound on the parkway when it crashed into the bridge pier of the Kentucky 408 overpass. Todd says “substantial debris” is reported on the roadway.

A bridge inspector has to assess the bridge. Todd says there is also a 50-100 gallon diesel spill reported on the road.

The crash site is between the U.S. 641 Exit 11 interchange and the KY 348 Benton Exit 43 interchange.

Drivers are being detoured through Benton via KY 58 and U.S. 641. Todd says northbound traffic on U.S. 641 from Murray should take U.S. 641 through Benton to reconnect with the Purchase Parkway at Exit 434.
