SCAM ALERT: Union County, IL deputies warning of oil and chip scam

UNION COUNTY, IL — The Union County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a oil and chip scam going on in the county.

Deputies say they have gotten reports of a person identifying themselves as being with “Mid State Contractors” and working for the Union County Highway Department oil and chipping.

The person says they have chips left over from a job and are offering to sell them oil and chip for their driveway.

Deputies say the Union County Highway Department does not contract with any outside company to perform oil and chip work.

The person was driving a red colored truck with a magnetic sign reading the company’s name on it.

Anyone who has had contact with this person is asked to call the sheriff’s office immediately at (618) 833-5500.
