Danville beats 35-21 in Class 2A State Championship game

Danville’s Dmauriae VanCleave scored four touchdowns, including a 60-yard punt return that put the game out of reach, to lead the Admirals to a 35-21 win over Mayfield to claim the KHSAA Class 2A State Championship.

Mayfield took an 8-7 lead early in the second quarter when Jayden Stinson hit Jordan Harrison on a 70-yard touchdown pass. Danville answered with three consecutive touchdowns en route to their 11th state football championship.

Mayfield falls to 0-5 in state title games against Danville. The Cardinals end the season at 13-2. It’s the first time since 2009 Mayfield has finished a season with more than one loss.
