Investigation underway into officer involved shooting near KY/TN line


WEAKLEY COUNTY, TN — A Clinton, Kentucky man was killed in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday morning in Weakley County, Tennessee.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says the incident started around 1:15 a.m. in Hickman County, Kentucky when 34-year-old Salvador Byassee did not yield to a sobriety checkpoint on Highway 1218.

Kentucky State Police and the Hickman’s County Sheriff’s Department perused Byassee into Weakley County, Tennessee. That was when Byassee crashed his car and ran away on foot.

Byassee then stole a pickup truck from a neighboring home and a second chase began.

The car chase ended in a field near the 300 block of State Line Road when an officer crashed into the pickup truck.

Byassee got out of the pickup truck and ran into the woods with a Hickman County Sheriff’s deputy chasing after him.

According to TBI, the deputy saw that Byassee had a knife and shot at him, killing Byassee. No officers were injured in the incident.

TBI is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The name of the Hickman County sheriff’s deputy involved in the shooting has not been released at this time.
