Ice floats along the Mississippi River

CAIRO, IL – These images may look otherworldly, but you’re not looking at a distant planet. This is right here in the Local 6 region.

You can see ice flowing on the surface of the Mississippi River.

Sky6 captured this video at Fort Defiance in Cairo, Illinois, where the Mississippi meets the Ohio River.

The Coast Guard says the ice formed in our area over the weekend, and barge traffic was not affected.

Operators at the Dorena Hickman Ferry say they have not seen ice yet, but they expect to in the coming days. The ferry connects Dorena, Missouri, to Hickman, Kentucky, across the Mississippi.
