Karissa Shelton, Mathew Menke, Mandi Varel, and Shayne Veatch to “Go The Distance”
Go the distance for a happier, healthier you.
We are teaming up with Atlas Physical Therapy and Paducah Athletic Club to help 10 lucky WPSD viewers train for the Murray Half Marathon and Paducah Iron Mom. Meet our next three participants.
Karissa Shelton is already well on her way to a healthy lifestyle. The single mother of two from Paducah is already down 80 pounds! She says she’s ready to take it to the next level and hit a new goal by completing a half marathon.
Mathew Menke also has a weight loss success story. You wouldn’t believe by looking at him today that he once weighed 310 pounds. The Murray State student is now 185 and completed his first 5k in November. He writes, “I would love to have the opportunity to be able to complete a half marathon, all I need is just someone to help give me the proper training to help me get past my little hump and be able to run a long distance.”
Mandi Varel is a mom on a mission! The 34-year-old mother is from Calvert City, KY. She says she’s excited to set a positive example for her kids and prove you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
Shayne Veatch was excited to get the call that he’s been chosen. He’s already made big changes in his life to get healthy. He even quit smoking cigarettes and drinking soft drinks. With a 5k already under his belt, he’s running for his mom– who passed away.
He tells us, “I kinda want to do this in honor of her. And, but also you know, more for myself. And for my kids. To show them that first of all, it’s important to keep in shape and keep healthy, but also just to show that anybody at any age can do it.
Shayne’s right. all it takes is the drive, and a little help, to go the distance.
