2 sisters charged in beating of Weakley County woman

WEAKLEY COUNTY, TN – The Weakley County, Tennessee, Sheriff’s Department says two sisters have been charged after a woman was beaten so badly that she had to be flown to a Memphis trauma center.

The Weakley County 911 Center got a call about a disturbance on Hutchens Road, North of Martin, Tennessee, at 8:32 p.m. Wednesday. When deputies arrived at an address on that street, they say they found a 35 year old woman who’d been hit multiple times in the face and head with a baseball bat. She also had cuts around her hands. A bloody knife and a bat were recovered from the scene. The woman was flown by an Air Evac helicopter team to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center at Regional One Health Medical Center in Memphis. Deputies say they do not know her condition at this time.

Investigators allege two sisters, who are the victim’s neighbors, are the ones responsible for the attack. Deputies arrested 57-year-old Margaret Elizabeth Richards and 61-year-old Patricia Ann Higgins, and they have each been charged with aggravated assault.
