Brookport Bridge back open as ice melts

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY – The U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport” Bridge is back open Thursday, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says. The bridge had been closed since Tuesday due to ice.

The bridge — which connects McCracken County, Kentucky, to Brookport, Illinois — closed Tuesday night due to icing on the bridge deck.

On Thursday, KYTC announced the bridge reopened to traffic at 2:15 p.m. KYTC says warming temperatures and sunshine have melted the ice that was on the bridge.

A spokesman says the cabinet wants to remind drivers that there is currently a width restriction for the bridge. If your vehicle is wider than 8 feet, it is not allowed on the bridge.
