Former Rep. Carroll Hubbard under investigation for harassing communications

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY – McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden confirms Thursday that a former congressman from west Kentucky is under investigation.

Hayden says former U.S. Rep. Carroll Hubbard is being investigated regarding harassing communications he’s accused of sending to a local attorney.

The Courier Journal is reporting that Hubbard, who is a lawyer, called another attorney and her spouse “fat, ugly lesbians.” The Paducah attorney is Hubbard’s opponent in a family law case, and the Louisville paper reports Hubbard is accused of sending an anonymous letter to her making derogatory remarks. The Courier Journal says Hubbard told the paper he sent the letter, saying it was “an unwise decision.”

Hayden tells Local 6’s Blake Stevens he cannot elaborate on the case at this time.

The harassing communications charge is a Class B misdemeanor, and the 80-year-old former Democratic lawmaker could face fines up to $250 and up to 90 days in jail.
