Yum! It’s National Pizza Day!

(CNN) — It’s the day we’ve all been waiting for, not only is it Friday, it’s National Pizza Day!

Pizza is surely an all American favorite, whether it’s deep-dish, New York style, white, gluten-free or anything in between, it’s safe to say there’s a pie for everyone.

Americans consume about 23 pounds of pizza per person each year and pepperoni is the most popular.

The first pizzeria opened in New York City in 1895.

Today, some 17 percent of all restaurants in the U.S. are pizzerias.

Stefanie Martinez learned how to make the perfect pizza this morning at Mellow Mushroom in Paducah. Check out the process in the video above.
