Viewing areas for old U.S. 68/KY 80 Lake Barkley Bridge demolition determined

TRIGG COUNTY, KY — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has released more information on the upcoming old U.S. 68/KY 80 Lake Barkley Bridge blast set for later this month.

The explosion has tentatively been set for Wednesday, April 11 sometime between 6:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

A 1,500 feet clear zone will be set up around the blast site. This will impact both river and vehicle traffic.

Two viewing areas will be set up on both sides of the bridge for the public.

On the Land Between the Lakes side, the area along the multi-use trail will be available for spectators. A viewing area will also be staged near the Canton end of the bridge.

KYTC says the space for spectators will be much more limited than what was available during the old Eggners Ferry Bridge blast.

Again weather may impact the date on which the blast occurs. Regular meetings will start Friday, April 6 to determine if weather conditions will impact the blast schedule.

We will be providing updates as we get them from KYTC.
