Event Description

Friday: Intuitive Collage

Collage art is a powerful vehicle for allowing ones personal stories to be told. By letting go of the attempt to control the outcome, force the story or design, and learning to trust the intuitive voice within, it is possible for anyone to create a work of art that is deeply personal and visually satisfying. This class will walk the student through the process of choosing materials, layout and design, and techniques for collage with and without encaustic wax. Though technique driven, the class will allow enough time for each student to complete several collage works that uniquely connect to their voice whether their style is whimsical and light or takes a more serious tone.

Saturday: Encaustic Wax Collage on Plexiglas

Using Plexiglas as a foundation for encaustic wax offers options that cannot be achieved with a traditional canvas. For beginner to experienced artist, this encaustic how-to workshop provides an excellent overview for combining encaustic wax with the mixed-media collage look you love while achieving a beautiful light filtering luminosity.

Using clear acrylic Plexiglas as the foundation through which the finished piece will be viewed, the class will build the collage from either, or both, sides of the “canvas”, learning important information on the basics of encaustic wax & collage practices, along with techniques that are friendly to the encaustic medium, including image transfers, incising and mark-making, simple monoprint transfers, and more!

All supplies provided but the student may wish to bring some collage materials for a more personal experience.
