Hunting and Fishing Report for Week of October 19th

By Dave Henry

This week is always a much anticipated week on all of our deer hunting calendars. As the rut approaches, many of the bucks are starting to get on their feet during daytime hours and are starting to put down a lot of sign. Whiteoaks are the primary food source along with some of the freshly cut corn fields. Look for most of the deer movement to occur mainly in the early morning and late evening hours. Remember, the deer have been on a nocturnal pattern but as the next few weeks pass they will be on their feet during the mid-day as well.
The fishing this week has been starting to pick up for crappie and yellows in 8-12 ft of water on curly tail spinners. The water temp has dropped to 62 degrees and the lake levels are 356.23. Look to catch largemouth bass on lipless crankbaits (especially the Strike King Red Eye Shad) on secondary points and move towards the back of the bays. Good luck this week in the woods and on the water. We'll keep you posted next week.
