With a few exceptions like yoga or martial arts, most exercise requires the proper foot gear. So how do you pick the right shoes for the job?

Local 6's Laura Emerson investigated and found some good criteria for buying new shoes.

One thing you definitely need is the right cushioning and stability to keep your foot aligned and prevent it from rolling inward or outward.

Runners should also replace their shoes in a matter of a few months, or every several thousand miles. Depending on your sport or activity, your shows might last longer, but pay attention to your body.
