MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. - The animals came first Tuesday night at what is now an annual event that debuted last year during Marshall County Family Week.

They call it "Bark in the Park."

People were welcomed to bring their four legged friends with or without costumes for the competition.  The dogs also could lap up some refreshment.

Pet owners could purchase collars, tags and microchipping, to have a better chance of finding fido or fluffy if they ever get away.

The event supports care, spaying and neutering at the Marshall County Animal Shelter which has an impressively low $15 adoption fee.

"Every shelter in the area, ours included, all rely on donations, whether it's of money value or it's food, cleaning supplies, all of it, we welcome it with open arms," Marshall County Animal Shelter employee Erin Seig said.

If you missed out, plan for next year, or for an event coming up this Saturday.

The Marshall County Animal Shelter is hosting a 5K Powder Run and Walk, in which you support their work while getting covered in bright, pigmented powder.
