Changes coming to Lone Oak Road
PADUCAH, Ky. - Paducah city commissioners voted to support the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's change to Lone Oak Road.
The total width of the stretch of road won't change, but from the intersection of Buckner Lane, Broadway, and LaBelle Avenue to the intersection of Alben Barkley Drive and Jackson Street, the road will be resurfaced and re-painted. The section of Lone Oak Road would change from a two-lane street with parking next to the curb to a three-lane street without parking. The center lane would be a dedicated turn lane.
Todd said the reason they would like the city on board is because the city will be the ones to enforce the new stripes. He added the change is designed to improve the safety and traffic flow in the area.
Paducah City Engineer-Public Works Director Rick Murphy said in the meeting Tuesday night he sees no reason not to support the state project although he understands why a few residents might be resistant. He said all the businesses along the stretch of road have off-street parking and nearly every house has a driveway.
