Commission overpaid grant money to SIU Carbondale, wants money back
CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) is looking to recover $106,000 in excess grant money from SIU Carbondale.
The ISAC miscalculated the amount of the MAP (Monetary Assistance Program) grant and gave the university more money than it was supposed to. It is now asking for that money back.
SIU spokesperson Rod Sievers says the university already paid out the money to 318 students. He says the university will pay back the money and will not make students responsible.
Sievers says he doesn't know how the university will get the money since the fiscal year will soon end and the budget is tight.
The ISAC has not yet explained how the miscalculation happened.
