Cory Burkeen sentenced to 10 years for role in deadly car crash
MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. - A judge has sentenced a Marshall County man who pleaded guilty to charges in connection with a deadly car crash.
Circuit Court Judge Dennis Foust sentenced Cory Burkeen to 10 years in prison.
Burkeen accepted a plea deal last month for his role in the 2012 crash that took the life of Landon Lovett and seriously injured Shane McKenty.
The state reduced a murder charge to 2nd degree manslaughter and dropped some of the other charges, including DUI. However, the state did not budge on assault or wanton endangerment charges.
Burkeen could be granted parole after eight-and-a-half years. After serving his time, Burkeen will be on probation for five years for an unrelated burglary.
