PADUCAH, Ky. - Thousands of quilters descended on Paducah, Kentucky this week.  For most of them, Tuesday night was one of the week's biggest events.

More than 75 quilts were shown off and recognized as part of the awards ceremony at the Carson Center.

As each quilt was revealed, there were gasps from the crowd.  All of them waiting to see which would win the Best of Show prize.

This year's winner is called 'Fiesta Mexico.'  The work of art was made by Renae Haddadin of Utah and Karen Buckley of Pennsylvania.

"We're just so excited because this is the first project we've ever worked on together. To have it win Best of Show is like mind boggling really," Buckley said.

It took Buckley about a year to piece it all together.  Then, she shipped it off to Haddadin who finished the quilting.

"I looked at it and thought well it's different every where. I'll just start, each little nook and cranny trying to think of something creative or different or think outside of the lines because it's not symmetrical, it's not predictable," Haddadin said.

There is a $20,000 prize attached to the masterpiece.  It will be on display in the center of the Expo Center all week.
