Honeywell reaches agreement on upgrades to Metropolis plant

METROPOLIS, Ill. - Honeywell announced today that it has reached an agreement with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission regarding necessary upgrades at the Metropolis plant.

The NRC says the plant must upgrade its safety measures to ensure it can withstand extreme natural disasters such as tornadoes and earthquakes.

Based on the NRC's orders, scoping, planning and design work will take between 9 and 12 months to complete.

An exact timeline for a restart of operations at Honeywell has not been determined.
