Jasmine Taylor murder trial delayed, hearing scheduled for August 9
PADUCAH, Ky. - The murder trial against Jasmine Taylor hit a snag just one week before it was scheduled to begin.
Taylor faces murder and kidnapping charges in connection with the December 2010 death of 21-year-old CaSondra Evrard.
Taylor was scheduled to stand trial on June 17, but according to the Paducah Sun, it has been continued to allow for completion of a mental evaluation at a state hospital.
A status hearing has been scheduled for August 9 to schedule a new trial date.
Taylor's mother, Jamie Taylor, testified during the trial of her husband, Mark Taylor. She said that family members tortured and eventually killed Evrard inside their home. Jamie says the incident began after Jasmine told them Evrard had allowed her to be raped.
Jasmine Taylor and six others were arrested and charged in connection with Evrard's death. All six other suspects have either pleaded guilty to lesser charges or been convicted at trial. Sentencing for each defendant is scheduled to take place after Jasmine Taylor's trial.
