Kentucky unemployment rate drops to 7.9 percent in April
FRANKFORT, Ky. - Kentucky's official unemployment rate dropped slightly in April, falling from 8 percent to 7.9 percent.
The rate is down .3 percent from April 2012's rate of 8.2 percent. However, it remains above the national rate, which came in at 7.5 percent in April.
The commonwealth's civilian labor force rose by 6,226 people to 2,093,048. Employment rose by 6,673 people while unemployment dropped by 447.
Leisure and hospitality saw the bulk of Kentucky's job growth in April, adding 2,800 positions. Manufacturing jobs also saw an increase, rising by 2,300 positions.
