PADUCAH, Ky. - It's April 22, and that means people across the world are taking part in Earth Day.

Meanwhile, some people do their part to save the planet year-round by recycling. Studies have shown that recycling is one of the best ways to help the environment. However, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, only 35 percent of Americans and less than 10 percent of businesses recycle.

Recycling can make a real difference, as every three months Americans throw enough aluminum in landfills to build our nation's entire commercial air fleet. We throw away 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour, along with enough office paper each year to built a 12-foot high wall from Seattle to New York.

Local 6's Marissa Hollowed visited a recycling center this morning on Local 6 Today and showed some ways to cut back on all that garbage. Check out the video for more.
