HICKMAN, Ky. - The man who pleaded guilty to killing a western Kentucky mayor will spend the forseeable future behind bars.

Thomas Lattus will spend more than 37 years in prison.  He received the sentence during an appearance in Fulton Circuit Court.

Last year, investigators say Lattus shot and killed 68-year-old Hickman Mayor Charles Murphy.  Lattus pleaded guilty but mentally ill to the crime.

His reason for shooting Murphy: the mayor allegedly hurt Lattus' mother.
