McCracken County man charged with breaking into cars, stealing valuables
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. - A McCracken County man is in jail after police say he broke into multiple cars in the Farley area and stole valuables.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says the thefts occurred between late Sunday night and early Monday morning. Deputies then conducted a late-night operation on Monday, believing the thefts would continue.
While investigating, the department received a call about a residential burglary on Arizona Street shortly after 11 p.m. Monday. Police responded and found 21-year-old Tyler Cope, along with a juvenile, inside the trailer.
Deputies determined that Cope and the juvenile had permission to be inside the home. They then found a driver's license on the ground "in plain view" that belonged to a woman who had reported it stolen the night before. A subsequent search of the trailer revealed additional items that had also been reported stolen late Sunday night.
Cope was arrested and taken to the McCracken County Jail. He faces two counts of Receiving Stolen Property Under $500.00. The investigation remains ongoing and more charges are possible.
Cope was previously arrested in 2011 for breaking into vehicles and was on felony probation.
All cars that were broken into were believed to have been unlocked at the time of the thefts.
