Metropolis church to hold annual ice cream social Thursday evening
METROPOLIS, Ill. - For the past 70 years, the people at St. John Lutheran Church in Metropolis have been helping local families in need.
They accomplish that by holding an ice cream social, featuring not only hand-churned ice cream, but burgers and hot dogs as well.
After the meal you can also check out their "country store" featuring craft items, vegetables and baked goods.
The event starts Thursday evening at 5 p.m. at the church, which is located on Old Marion Road. Proceeds from the event will go to two familes: one that lost their home in a fire and another with a family member who is suffering from cancer and has limited insurance.
The church says up to 1,000 people could attend the event.
Local 6's Marissa Hollowed visited the church as they prepared for the annual event. Check out the video for more.
