PADUCAH — One of the things we hate about summer, besides the uncomfortable heat, is bugs and the bites they leave behind. The American Mosquito Control Association is warning you about the dangers of the pesky bugs with this week's mosquito awareness week.
They're always a nuisance but mosquitoes can carry dangerous diseases such as West Nile virus and can cause heart-worm in our pets if bitten. The CDC estimates nearly 300,000 Americans have gotten sick with West Nile in the last 11 years.
Erika Chambers doesn't want her family to add to that number. So, she hired The Mosquito Authority. They spray your yard and the trees, and treat each drain with repellant.
"Mosquitoes are really bad," Chambers said. "We live really close to a creek just a couple houses over and with the swimming pool and everything else and with the water and the sprinkler system, mosquitoes have always been bad here."
The spray is 80 percent less toxic than the tradition body repellants and is safe around children and pets.
