Murphysboro Police request vehicles be removed from snow routes

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. - With the approaching winter storm threatening a significant amount of snow over the weekend, the Murphysboro Police Department would like to remind people parking along designated snow routes to remove their vehicles from the streets.

The Murphysboro Police Department will be enforcing Snow Route Regulations on January 4th starting at 3:00 p.m. City ordinance requires that vehicles be removed from snow routes so they can be cleared and maintained for ease in travel throughout the winter storm.

Police are requesting your assistance in removing vehicles parked along these routes prior to the snow fall. Vehicles not in compliance will be removed by the Department as needed.

The routes are as follows:

  • Walnut Street from 6th to 22nd Street
  • 22nd Street from Illinois Avenue to Division Street
  • Division Street from South 22nd Street to South 23rd Street
  • Commercial Street from South 20th Street to the Water Treatment Plant
  • 20th Street, North and South, between Illinois Avenue and the south city limits
  • Shomaker Drive from South 20th Street to Bridge Street
  • Bridge Street from Shomaker to Walnut via South 8th Street
  • Illinois Avenue from North 6th Street to North 22nd Street
  • Gartside Street from North 14th Street to North 22nd Street
  • North 16th Street from Gartside Street to Harry Ray Drive
  • North 7th Street from Lucier Street to Walnut Street
  • South 10th Street from Mulberry Street north to Hanson Street

They also want to remind people to clear snow from your windows, and to drive slowly and carefully.
