NRC to hold Honeywell meeting July 9 in Metropolis
METROPOLIS, Ill. - The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled a meeting to discuss inspections and a review of modifications at the Honeywell plant in Metropolis.
The public meeting will be held July 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center on 10th Street in Metropolis.
The NRC says the purpose of the meeting is to discuss the progress Honeywell has made in meeting the requirements of an order issued in October 2012 to update the facility.
The plant shut down in May 2012 following an NRC inspection of the facility, laying off 228 employees. Front-end operations resumed last week. At that time, Honeywell officials said they hoped for a full relaunch by July.
As part of the public meeting, the NRC has set up a toll free phone line for anyone unable to attend in person. The information is available by contacting Nick Peterka at (404) 997-4556 or Richard Gibson at (404) 997-4718.
