One dead after early morning shooting in Christian County

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. -  The Christian County Sheriff’s Department reports a man has died after being shot in an early morning shooting.

Police were called to Woodland Heights just after 3:30 am after a call was received by dispatch indicating a man had been shot. 

Deputies arrived to discover that Antwain D. Poindexter, 20, of Hopkinsville in front of an apartment building at Woodland Heights with a head wound.

Poindexter was taken to Jennie Stuart ER and later life flighted to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he died of his injuries.  An autopsy is scheduled for next week.

Witnesses at the scene reported hearing what sounded like a gunshot at around 3:30 am. 

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office suspect foul play and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
