Overnight rains damage Paducah VFW Post

PADUCAH, Ky. - An effort to put a new roof on the VFW building in Paducah has hit a major snag following Tuesday night's heavy rain.

VFW Post 1191, located on Washington Street, suffered damage when rain caused parts of the roof to collapse, destroying pool tables, the dartboard, computers and the POW remembrance table.

Post Commander Mike Presson says work on the roof began Tuesday to fix a leak over the ballroom. He also says the worst part of the situation is that Veterans have nowhere to go.

"They come in every morning, drink coffee and eat their sandwiches. They talk about World War II and all that, Vietnam and all that, and it's over. They have no place to go," Presson said.

Veterans in Paducah spent several years working to raise money for the new roof. Now they have to figure out if their insurance or the roofers will be responsible for the repair.
