PADUCAH, Ky. - Three people in desperate needed of cataract surgery got free procedures from a local lawmaker.

U.S. Senator and opthamologist Rand Paul performed surgeries at no charge Tuesday at the 'Pain Management Center' in Paducah.

Doctor Paul performed surgery on one eye, while Doctor Barbara Bowers will perform surgey on the other eye in coming weeks.

The medical director there also donated to the cause and says it's a win-win because patients get help they need and Senator Paul gets to keep doing what he loves.

"It's important to keep your skills sharp, otherwise you lose them and if you ever need them you cannot," Dr. Laxmaiah Manchikanti said

The surgery would have cost the patients more than $2,000.  Patients say they didn't have health insurance and couldn't afford the surgery.
