REIDLAND, Ky. - A teacher who aided in writing a controversial letter to the editor, which shut down a local school for a day in December, has been fired.

According to the Paducah Sun, Reidland High School Spanish teacher Shawnda Pacheco was fired by McCracken County Superintendent Nancy Waldrop last Friday.

Pacheco told the newspaper that her firing was a direct result of the letter that caused both the high school and middle school to close on December 18.

Pacheco and a 17-year-old student wrote the letter, which expressed concern over safety at the school and the superintendent's reaction to threats that had allegedly been made.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office investigated the threats and the letter. No charges have been filed.
