Driver killed in head-on wreckEditor's note: updated with additional informaiton MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. — A teenager may face criminal charges after a head-on collision killed another driver near the intersection of U.S. 62 and the Mayfield Metropolis Road Wednesday morning. The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says the driver of a Hummer H-2 was eastbound on Blandville Road, crossed the centerline and hit a 2009 Dodge minivan head on. The driver of the minivan, 34-year-old Ezra Moffett Jr., of Paducah, was killed and pronounced dead at the scene by the McCracken County Coroner’s Office. Several witnesses reported to deputies that just before to the wreck, the Hummer H-2 was driving in a reckless manner, swerving from lane to lane and speeding. Several other drivers reported the Hummer almost hit them as well. Both the driver and passenger of the Hummer were 17-years-old. The driver did not have a valid driver’s license. Detectives had to obtain a search warrant to obtain blood and urine samples of the driver of the Hummer, as he refused to voluntarily provide them. Both the driver and the passenger of the Hummer were transported by Mercy Regional Ambulance to Western Baptist Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The investigation into the cause of the crash as well as the possibility of criminal charges are ongoing and pending. |
