Sheriff: Woman on drugs breaks into home, terrorizes couple
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. - The patched up door at a home along Lovelaceville Florence Station Road East tells a story. The woman who was sitting behind it Thursday night has quite a story too.
Sonya, who asked Local 6 not share her last name, says she was watching tv when a stranger came crashing into her living room shortly after 11 that night.
"Within a split second the glass is exploding in the room and she's coming in thru the blinds, and all I see is arms," she remembered.
To Sonya, the woman was a stranger. But law enforcement tell Local 6 they were familiar with her. Kelly Christian, 33, has been arrested 23 times since 2003 for a series of drug related offenses. Law enforcement says on Thursday night, she was again on drugs.
Sonya says she was frozen in terror, "I couldn't feel my legs, they were like rubber. I was just terrified."
Sonya made it up the steps when she says Christian, who was now screaming, caught up to her.
"I took off in the kitchen, it was a chase," she said, adding, "I truly believed I was going to die."
But then, her husband, Mark appeared with a gun.
And as she called 911, he waited, "He had his finger on the trigger."
Mark never pulled it. A few heart stopping minutes later, Sonya says Kelly Christian was leaving the same way she came in.
"I didn't break down 'til they walked out that door and then I lost it," she remembered.
"God was with us, that's for sure," she said.
Christian is charged with public intoxication, criminal mischief, and criminal trespassing. She is also facing several drug possession charges.
McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden tells Local 6, "Some people are of the opinion drug addictions are a victim less crime. This is evidence that that is not the case. This woman broke into someone's house because of her addiction, someone could have been killed."
"It is my hope she is not only prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but gets the help she so obviously needs," he added.
