Thrifty Thursday: Father's Day gift ideas

Web Editor - Ryan Burkett

He was always there to help with homework, change a light bulb and hang a picture -- or just to make you feel special. For this week's Thrifty Thursday, we're celebrating dad!

We know you have all the love in the world to give to him, but maybe not all the money. Here are some ideas for gifts this Father's Day.

- As you might know, a lot of dads like to play golf. Many local courses have online specials during the summer months. For example, Paxton Park has its season pass on sale and a free round for your birthday. A great thing for dad to take with him? Custom golf balls. You can get out some permanent markers and let the kids go crazy.

- A car wash is another popular gift idea. The whole family can spruce up dad's ride for him, then leave him with a gift bucket filled with sponges, wax and Armor All.

- If you're not into crafts that take a lot of effort, a Shrinky Dink kit will allow dad to take the kids to work all the time. It costs about $9.99 and allows you to print out photos of the kids. Just follow the instructions on the kit to make tie pins and keychains.

- If dad's looking to get into shape, there are a few things you can do for him. You can make him a CD or iPod playlist full of jams to help him while pumping iron. You can also buy an inexpensive workout DVD to do at home. Also, many gyms, including Snap Fitness and Go Performance, have a seven-day free trial period.
