MURRAY, Ky. - Dramatic video taken from the Murray Wal-Mart on September 9th, shows 20 year-old Zay Jackson running down two people - even putting his car in reverse and backing over one of them.
Police say Jackson got into an argument with Jason Clement and his wife after hitting a parked truck with his shopping cart. Jackson can be seen hitting the man and driving around the parking lot with him on the hood. Police say the victims sustained minor injuries. It also led to Jackson's arrest for second degree assault.
"Commonwealth versus Jay Jackson," Chief Circuit Judge Dennis Foust announced Friday morning.
It's not the type of introduction or court he's used to, but Jackson appeared Friday before a Calloway County judge to plead guilty.
"It's my understanding and I discussed this with Zay and going through his constitutional rights, he wishes to waive his constitutional rights and enter a plea of guilty persistent to the plea agreement imposed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky," said defense attorney Gary Haverstock.
Part of the plea agreement requires Jackson to spend 30 days in jail and pay restitution to the victims. Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Cirris Hatfield said Jackson has no prior criminal history and she wants him to visit schools to teach students about the consequences of a bad decision.
"The defendant shall commit no other offenses of the law, defendant shall enroll in and successfully complete anger management counseling," Judge Foust said.
Jackson will still be allowed to take classes at Murray State and he tells us he hopes with the required counseling, his criminal behavior won't be repeated.
