NEW CONCORD, Ky. — With the smell of smoke piercing the hot humid air, Rudy Whitlow Sr. said, "She was trouble."

"She" was Jacqueline Hutchens, 48, from Fairview, Tennessee. Whitlow Sr. did not know her very well but he knew he didn't like her.

She had moved in with his son Rudy Whitlow Jr. just two weeks before.

On Wednesday night, sheriff's deputies in Calloway County arrested Hutchens, charging her with criminal mischief and arson.

Whitlow Sr. had been at church that night. It was shortly after seven when his pastor told him there was a fire along his road, Clayshire Drive in New Concord.

He raced home, only to discover it was his son's home.

"It is gone, everything is burnt to the ceiling," he said Thursday, surveying the damage.

"Evidently, they got in an argument, she got upset and went underneath the trailer, smoking a cigarette," Calloway County Sheriff's Deputy Danny Williams said.

He said Hutchens threw her cigarette into a pile of straw and took off into the woods. Williams arrested her and said he was not sure if she was sorry.

"She was intoxicated and I really couldn't get a good read on her last night," Williams said.

Whitlow Sr. was relieved to see her taken away in handcuffs and grateful to see his son, safe and sound, in the driveway.

"One of my sons, he got cancer and died. I could have lost two sons."

Whitlow Sr. is a member of Eastwood Baptist Church. Church members have already begun to collect clothes for his son. He said his son will stay with him until he gets back on his feet.

The Calloway County Sheriff's Department said the investigation is ongoing.
