Two dead in Jefferson County crash
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill. - Two people are dead following an early Saturday morning crash in Jefferson County.
ISP says a driver of a Jeep was traveling south bound on Illinois Route 37, just north of East Adams Road. For unknown reasons, the Jeep crossed the center line and hit a guard rail. The vehicle continued past the guard rail rolling into an icy creek bed where it came to rest on its top.
34 year-old Melanie May and 9 year-old Aaron May, both of Benton, Illinois, were killed in the crash. The driver, 19 year-old Nicholas Rakas, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois, for non-life threatening injuries.
