MARION, Ill. - Stamping out veteran homelessness.

The Marion VA Medical Center held their annual stand down Thursday.

More than 400 veterans got health checks, clothing, and even food supplies.

All the canned goods came from the St.Louis Food Bank who came down for the event.

Nationwide the Department of Veterans Affairs is on a campaign to end veteran homelessness by 2015.

"It has an impact because it not only connects veterans to the resources we have to give to them but other resources throughout the community," Justin Carver with the Marion VA Center said.

This is the sixth year for the stand down in Marion, Illinois.

The VA will host an additional stand down next week in Evansville, Indiana and one on september 25 at a health fair in Owensboro, Kentucky.
