Statewide ban on cell phone usage while driving progressing in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - A statewide ban on the use of hand-held cell phones while driving is one step closer in Illinois.

A senate committee voted 12-to-3 to recommend its passage.

In March, the measure narrowly passed in the Illinois House and is now making its way through the senate.

Already, 76 Illinois communities have some restrictions on use of hand-held cell phones while driving.

The measure would provide uniformity, so Sllinois cell phone users know where they might get ticketed.
